# Four Winns Freedom 190 (1989)

> **Model-name corrected 2026-06-09:** this is a **1989 Four Winns Freedom 190** (OMC-era Freedom line: 150/170/190), NOT the modern (2022+) H-series "H190". The `fourwinns-h190` id/slug is kept as legacy so links don't break; only the display name was wrong. Engine (OMC Cobra 4.3L) + HIN unchanged.

> **⚠️ Stale-flag 2026-05-29 — last_session `2026-04-28` (31 days).** Boating season already started per `sb-fourwinns-terminals` (P2 open, 2026-05-23). Six pending items remain (cable ends, parasitic draw, cable inspection, charging voltage, group 24/27 dim, canonical CSS render). Treat as live-but-stale until Sam's recalibration decision #3 (intake hygiene pass — see `handoff-blocks/recalibration-prep-2026-05-28.md`).

## Current state

Guide v0.1 rendered against canonical template structure (interim
CSS — canonical styling pass pending Claude Code). Scope of v0.1 is
spring commissioning of the cranking circuit only: battery
replacement, parasitic-draw isolation, cable inspection, charging
voltage verification. Engine, fuel, ignition, drive, and lower-unit
service explicitly out of scope for v0.1 — those will get their own
versioned scope in subsequent guides.

## Open items

- **Battery & cables — cable ends + pontoon-battery swap evaluation**
(task-BOAT-BATTERY-CABLES-001, added 2026-05-18 by CC during
autonomous performance-test session). **Decision reference:** [/equipment/fourwinns-h190/battery-decision.md](/equipment/fourwinns-h190/battery-decision.md) — spec requirements, swap-vs-new matrix, cable-ends shopping list, buy-new pricing.
  - Identify correct cable end types for the Four Winns battery
connection (top-post vs side-post terminals; ring-lug sizes for
    both ends of each cable).
  - Decide whether to repurpose the pontoon battery as a 12V
replacement here, or buy fresh. Sub-checks:
    - Four Winns current battery condition
    - Pontoon battery age, CCA rating, group size
    - Physical fit in the Four Winns battery box (ties to the
Group 24M vs 27M open question below)
  - Sourcing for cable ends if needed: NAPA / AutoZone / Marine
    West / Amazon.
  - Affects: season readiness.
- **Parasitic draw test pending** (DHL-001 H3 — BLOCKING): Sam to
execute Part 02 procedure with new battery installed; report
  reading.
- **Cable inspection pending** (DHL-001 H5): Sam to pull cable boots
during battery swap, inspect for hidden corrosion under insulation.
- **Charging voltage check pending** (DHL-001 H4): once engine
commissioned, voltmeter at battery posts at 1500 RPM; spec
  13.0–14.7 V (// UNVERIFIED against 1989-issue OMC service manual).
- **Battery box dimension measurement pending**: confirm Group 24M
vs 27M physical fit before purchase.
- **Canonical CSS render pending**: guide v0.1 styling is interim;
full canonical-template render to be done by Claude Code.
- **Spec verifications pending against OMC `0507759`**: charging
voltage, alternator P/N, `MED` configuration suffix in engine
  model.

- Architecture: `architecture/pending/` — no open DRs touching this entity

## Sister equipment (Sam's other boats)

- **Harris FloteBote pontoon + Johnson 50 HP 2-stroke** — Sam's other
boat. Different drive (outboard vs sterndrive) but same operator and
the same pre-launch discipline applies. See
  `index/equipment/harris-flotebote-pontoon.md`.
- **NOT Sam's:** the **Yamaha F150** (`customer-jobs/lubig-bennington-pontoon-2026-05/yamaha-f150tlr.md`)
  belongs to **John Lubig's 2008 Bennington** (HIN ETW58746C808) — a
*customer* engine, not Sam's. (Corrected 2026-06-01; this line previously
mislabeled the Yamaha as "Sam's other boat engine.")

## Specs (unverified, pending source confirmation)

service manual via iboats forum; same charging-system generation
as 1989 but not 1989-issue confirmed.
- Engine model suffix `MED` — partial decode pending OMC
  documentation.
